HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) — Not a dull moment for Buster Murdaugh.
Days after his father's conviction and sentencing for murdering his mother and brother, he filed a police report complaining of harassing media attention.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina, Murdaugh contacted law enforcement on Sunday regarding a specific photo of him in the New York Post. It showed him inside his home in Hilton Head.
Murdaugh told police he and his girlfriend Brookylnn White reviewed their Ring camera video and saw a suspicious gray Dodge Challenger outside their home at about 6:39 p.m. the day before. They believe that was the person responsible for the photo based on the angle of the picture.
Murdaugh contacted the Sheriff's office for assistance.
According to the report, the sheriff's office told Murdaugh they would add extra patrols to the area and encouraged him and his girlfriend to call if anything suspicious occurs again.
That didn't take long.
About 40 minutes later, White reported she and Murdaugh were being followed by "the media" in a gray Chevrolet SUV as they were headed off the island.
A corporal in the area stopped the suspicious vehicle after seeing the driver speeding and making an improper lane change. The police report noted what looked like a camera bag in the passenger seat of the rental car.
According to the report, the driver was warned for making the traffic violations and released.
Last Thursday, Buster Murdaugh's father, Alex Murdaugh, was found guilty of killing his wife Maggie, and his other son, Paul. Buster is Alex's last surviving son.
The next day, Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to lifein prison on both counts of murder.
